Bose Home Theater System review I really wanted to be positive with this Bose home theater system review. I wanted to review this product and be able to say this system was good -contrary to so many other negative reviews on the web.
My Experience with Bose:I can remember hearing a Bose home theater system when I was about eighteen years old and thinking to myself that it sounded kind of weird. But I have to be honest, I liked it! At least I did at first. It sounded tizzy and bright…But it didn’t take long to realize that something wasn’t correct about the sound. If you look at the peaked measured response of the lower treble it makes sense why it sounded bright. Furthermore, this speaker system did not sound real. At the time I didn’t know why it sounded wrong, I just lost interest in purchasing the Bose home theater system. Fast forward to present day:Unfortunately for Bose, measurement tools are readily available to almost anyone now. If you so desire you can see the performance of a speaker system as measured in your own room. Measurement software can be downloaded and working probably within an hour or so.The bass speaker is made out of 3/8” inch thick particle board. The materials for the entire speaker system cost less than 200 dollars. I mention this under sound quality because it bears most of the responsibility for the poor performance. There is a bass suck out between 220 and 280 Hz in the measured response. This is an indicator of poor crossover design as well. The drivers, materials, crossovers and implementation of each of these are all sub optimal within this Bose system. Summary:I almost hate to post this review because it looks like I am picking on Bose. I don’t like to pick on manufacturers because many of them try very hard to produce a good product for the marketplace.It is very expensive to place any product in the retail market. I don’t take it lightly that a negative review will tarnish the company and product that they promote. But, if the advancement of technology and better products are the goal, then the truth needs to be promoted. This will give any competing company level ground from which to build their business. If improvements to a product need to be made then I hope to provide the motivation toward that improvement. What I can say is that there are affordable alternatives to the Bose Home Theater System. I am not saying that they measure appreciably better than the Bose system, but their cost is much lower. So if you are in the market for a Bose theater system you can get an audio system for substantially less investment. Here is another
