Find the "Home Theater Speakers best for Music and DVD's"

large-dipole-speaker-Instrument 3 What are the - home theater speakers best for you?

Quality speaker systems can be held back by...

- budget

- parts

- company profits and overhead

- the designers abilities

More often than not the designer is severely limited by a budget they must adhere to...

This budget is set by the speaker manufacturer company so that profits can be reached....

...that's fine but...

This does nothing to increase the performance of the loudspeaker. And it does nothing to bring a quality stereo speakers or home theater experience into your home.

However, there are very good speaker manufacturers and speaker designs on the market.

I'm not saying otherwise.

I love speakers from Thiel, Magico, Rockport, Magnepan, and Wilson Audio.

There are some truly fantastic designs available.

But these excellent systems are very expensive and may not be in everyone's budget. They're certainly not in my budget.

A better way to get great speakers? Build speakers!

Can you get an excellent speaker system for a fraction of the cost of a top flight design?

Would you be interested in that?

Would you like to have a really good home theater system that was competitive at 5 or even 10 times the investment?

Who can design the Best Home Theatre Speakers for you?

I think anyone with proper training and education could design a great loudspeaker system. To see some of the Best Home Speakers click here.

Speaker building concepts can be learned.

I am not saying that you must build the loudspeaker yourself. But DIY does give you some clear advantages over the quality control of the project - Go to Best Speakers.

Loudspeaker Design Concepts that should be considered in Any Loudspeaker:

Speaker Drivers and Driver Spacing:

Midrange drivers and tweeters should usually be placed as close to one another as possible to minimize lobeing at the crossover point.

This is where the two drivers overlap in frequency and are both playing the same notes.

If using a low order crossover (like 1st order or 2nd order) this becomes even more important because the overlaps go further into the suboptimal operating ranges of each driver.

Standing waves within the Speaker Cabinet:

Standing waves build up inside and cavity or enclosure (including your room) where two walls are parallel to one another. In your room it is best to have the walls parallel so that modes can be calculated and you can do something about them.

With speakers the opposite is true:

Standing waves will build up and eventually exit back out through the back of the speaker cone. This will cause out of phase cancellations and distortion harmonics.

It is best if interior speaker walls are not parallel so that standing waves can be kept to a minimum.

The sound will bounce around a bit internally and be absorbed by the acoustic damping within the enclosure.

In reality some sound will make its way back to the rear of the cones. But non parallel walls will keep these to a minimum.

Speaker Cabinet Quality:

This is the most labor intensive part of any loudspeaker. At least it should be. And if you are after the home theater speakers best performance available consider speakers that use herculean cabinets. Again, the best bang for the buck here is to build them yourself.

A good designers home theater speakers best cabinet idea may set you back as much as a vehicle.

The cabinet should be inert, dead, rock solid, and probably very heavy if all things are optimal. Bracing should be complex and well engineered.

Speaker Cabinet Baffle edges:

Sound will also build up on sharp edges. This is called Edge Diffraction. How do you minimize baffle diffraction?

Round all of edges of the front baffle with at least a quarter inch radius.

If the rounded edges are not physically attractive with the look of your home theater speakers design- then use felt on the baffle.

The felt will help control these diffraction artifacts.

This is the technique used on the Instrument 2 Loudspeaker and other manufacturers such as Wilson Audio Loudspeakers.

To get the home theater speakers best for your application baffle felt may need to be used. This can be added to existing speakers as well.

Speaker Driver Recommendations and Selections:

Picking quality drivers that work well with one another is an important key to building a good design.

Many designers choose drivers with poor distortion measurements for budget reasons. If you want a low distortion playback system, use low distortion drivers.

Use actual measurements. The Zaph Audio website is a tremendous resource for these measurements.

A Speaker Design example:

If I needed a driver for a sealed box chamber in a two way system my needs would be different than if I were building a 3 way system in a sealed box.

In both cases you need a clean response at or near the crossover point of the tweeter.

If you intend to use a larger driver like a 6.5 or 7 inch mid-range driver you may want to position your crossover point fairly low.

A good starting point would be around 2500 Hz. This is high enough to use a variety of tweeters but low enough to control the lobeing of larger cones. This assumes that the response of the mid-range driver is clean in the 2500 Hz region.

The measured response should be smooth both 500Hz below and above this point as well. If not you will need to do some smoothing with the crossover in those regions. The ear is very sensitive between 200 Hz and 3500 Hz.

A home theater speakers best use of a driver must be considered as part of the entire system. Not based on the single performance of one component.

Customer Testimonials:

"Peter, I just wanted to drop you a quick note and say how impressed I am with these speakers. They are EXACTLY what I was looking for..very very small with big sound.

My wife loves them as well. They look great, and you hardly notice them at all sitting on the shelf. They integrate perfectly as surrounds. I have them crossed over at 150 as you recommended...simply fantastic. I only have about 15 hours on them so far, so I know they will only get better. You really have something here. Kelly ~ Montana USA

"I found these speakers by accident and after reading all the available info and after several emails back and forth with the company owner I decided I had nothing to lose, so I ordered a set of 5 mini cube speakers.

Peter was very helpful and patient and always responded to my emails within hours.

I have had the speakers set up for a couple of days and they sound great; they are everything described on the web site.

The sound from these small speakers truly is awesome.

I replaced a set of very high quality but also very large speakers and have not been disappointed... and the wife loves not having four large speakers in the living room.

The sound from these speakers really does fill the entire house, I was concerned about the small size of the speakers due to the fact I like to listen to music and movies at volumes most would consider loud.

These speakers are more than capable of playing at volume levels louder than I ever need while also maintaining very high quality sound. ~by; William (Corinth,TX)

"I ordered these speakers in the hope of bringing some life to my entertainment system... I didn’t think it would bring room filling sound to my entire house. These speakers not only fill my den with crystal clear sound, but radiate great sound throughout the house. Thanks for such a great product!" Celia ~Malasia IP#110.159.58.99

"these speakers breathed new life back into my music, I had no idea such small surround sound speakers could perform so well." John from US IP# 24.177.193.45

"how you got so much performance out of these speakers I have no idea -Great product!" Andrew from Denmark IP# 130.225.22.254

"nice speakers, nice finish, blended in with my room well and the wife is happy too. Great sound presentation! Now I just wish you guys made a subwoofer." Kyle from US IP# 98.233.53.244

"These surround sound speakers are amazing! After running them in for a couple days, I decided to play some tunes, and they never once sounded distorted or strained...

While I know they should be paired with a good sub-woofer bass system, I think they sound good enough that I can wait until I have the money to buy a really nice sub." Fred US IP#76.208.13.182

"Wow, what a great set of speakers. I really understand what you mean by a large sound-stage." Sandy from US IP# 137.100.121.30

"Recently I came to realize that my HDTV was better than my sound system... So, I decided to piece together a better sound system. Running across your site (and these speakers) was the best thing that has happened to my home theater.

My current system is; an older receiver, a home theater PC with a blue-ray player drive, and one pair of your Mini-Cubes. (for now; I plan to buy 3 more speakers soon)" Kevin US IP#98.179.199.26

"Purchasing a new set of surround sound speakers was a must for me. My old system looked awful and sounded even worse. The quality and look of your Mini-Cube speaker were a perfect fit.

Once I reviewed the ratings and tests I knew they would be perfect. I will be sure to look for more information and products from you. I can't believe the performance of these surround sound speakers for the modest price. I would recommend these speakers to anyone!" Mike US IP#172.16.2.142

"The overall quality and dynamic capacity of these speakers really took me by surprise. Their imaging is distinct, tonality is crystal clear, and oh yeah... they pump out some serious volume!

I feel like I have stolen speakers that I can't afford. People that spend more are Suckers!!" Micah US #Ohio
