I use Acourate and Console Software

This is a room correction software that allows me to fine tune my room. Works good. I have been looking at the Thuneau software solution lately too.

Acourate has a Brute FIR section for crossover function. Can be resource intensive though.

Acourate is a software based speaker crossover program. It is useful for helping you to measure the speaker system as well. Acourate uses FIR filters, which yield the least ringing when it comes to transient response.

Ringing as it occurs in speakers and transient response is a factor that should be controlled if at all possible. Driver ringing is a distortion of the signal and not part of the original signal.

For measuring speakers you can use Acourate to split the signal for each driver similar to a passive crossover. Then measurements can be taken to calculate the response of the speaker system.

The main drawback to using Acourate is that it is pretty expensive. And it uses a lot of resources of the computer system. This makes it less useful for many users as the end user may need to keep a low latency signal chain. This is a common need for playing back movies as the video sinc can become a problem.

Music playback is not an issue for Acourate because the music will just take slightly longer to start playing. It essentially acts like a buffer similar to when your video buffers while playing a file off the internet.

But when playing DVD or movies while also using Acourate software you may need to also use some sort of delay's for the video signal to keep lip sinc controlled. FfDshow offers such delays, and this can be setup from within some Media players.
